Tips and Suggestions for Caribbean Destinations
- Passports must be valid 6 months past complete travel dates. Scan a copy of your passports and email to yourself before you go, just in case!
- Strong Sunblock- You are closer to the equator and will burn even if you don’t at home
- Bug Spray or wipes, the restaurants are often open-air and there can be bugs at night.
- Take insulated mugs- they serve drinks in small plastic cups at the beach and pool and you’ll be glad for something to keep your drink cool and sand-free
- Long pants, shirts with short sleeves, and closed-toed shoes if you are a man to wear in the a la carte restaurants at night. The Caribbean does have a dress code for men at night and you won’t be eating in a sit-down menu restaurant if you do not have slacks. They can be jeans.
- Small Ziploc bags -for sand, shells, or other fun things and to take cereal from the breakfast buffet to draw the fish in when you are snorkeling.
- Large Ziploc bags for liquids you may want to bring home like vanilla, alcohol, or beer you take from your fridge.
- Sneakers that are already broken in and Aqua shoes, when you snorkel you may be by coral and it is very sharp and can cut quickly.
- Band-aids- in case you didn’t break in your shoes!
- Aspirin- in case you drink too much free alcohol and Anti-diarrhea medicine
- Shower sponge or washcloth, some resorts are very stingy with washcloths and although you can ask for them they do not always rush to get them to you.
- Small US dollars to tip at the airport or to tip transfer people. Also, when bargaining you should never show larger bills or you will never get them to come down in price.
- In the Caribbean, the air conditioning works with the balcony doors as an energy saver. If you think your air conditioner is not working be sure to check that your balcony door is completely closed.
- When you leave the resort be sure to take a couple of bottles of water from your refrigerator and put them in your checked bags. You’ll appreciate it when you are on your trip home from the airport. Airline travel dehydrates and you’ll be glad for it even if it isn’t cold. Of course you could take beer too if you’d rather.
- Stay hydrated, stay together and be smart! =)
